History

The Meliá Milano Hotel was built in 2001 over the remains of the old Alemagna bakery, where the famous Christmas Panettone dessert was invented. The original facilities were built in the 1940's, when the expert baker Alemagna Gioacchino opened the first factory in the neighbourhood that includes Via Silva, Montebianco and Masaccio.

The buildings were bombed during the Second World War, and is now one of the historic city buildings which are protected due to their historical and aesthetic value.
